Strawberries Romanoff is a fruit and cream dessert that is simple, yet elegant.

Its creator is thought to be Marie Antoine Careme, who was the chef to the Russian ruler Nicholas I from the Romanoff family. 

Strawberries Romanoff is essentially a fancy way of serving strawberries with whipped cream with different flavors. This version is simple and delicious. Made with fresh Arkansas strawberries, it can't be beat.

Easy Strawberries Romanoff

1/2 cup cold heavy, whipping cream

3-4 Tablespoons powdered sugar

1/2 cup sour cream

3 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 Tablespoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon orange extract, optional

Fine zest of 1 orange, optional

1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 pints strawberries, hulled and cut in half

Mint, as garnish

Note: Chill bowl and mixer beaters at least 30 minutes prior to whipping cream.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with whisk attachment, whip cream and powdered sugar until it begins to thicken. It does not need to be stiff.

In another bowl, whisk together the sour cream, brown sugar, vanilla, orange extract and zest (if using) and cinnamon. Fold the sour cream mixture into the whipped cream and stir to combine.

Place a portion of strawberries in a bowl or serving container and top with cream mixture. Garnish with fresh mint, if desired.
