Two NYC actors find a love at The Rep that will last long after final curtain call

These two young New York City actors fell in love with the Arkansas Repertory Theater while performing in the show Mary Poppins. But while here in Little Rock, they also fell in love with each other. And now, they're back for the show, Chicago.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Repertory Theater is set to begin its comeback with the hit musical Chicago.

It opens in one week with local talent joining performers from Chicago and New York.

From everything we've seen, this show is guaranteed to have a lot of heart. Let’s take you inside the studio, rehearsals are long, intense and complex. And for Erik Clack, a resident of New York, he wouldn't have it any other way.

“The Rep feels like a second home for us as performers,” he said. Rachel Perlman also comes from New York and is also a Rep fan. “Such professional, high quality, high caliber talent, costuming, the technical elements, the scene design, um everything is just top-notch,” she added.

Four years ago, appearing in the stage version of Mary Poppins, they fell in love with the Rep. Then, they fell in love with each other. It sparked as they danced to the Mary Poppins song, “Lets Go Fly a Kite.’

“He had to lift me in this like ballet kind of catch where I like reach for a kite,” said Rachel. “We eventually started dating immediately after that show and have been together ever since,” said Erik. Through four years of living in New York City, going on tour together and apart, and performances on cruise ships. “We have done a lot together which is really rare,” said Rachel.

Just before they drove down to Little Rock to start the Rep rehearsals for Chicago they had one last New York City date. “So, I showed up late,” said Rachel. “And I took her to this really divey pizza place,” said Erik.

But they kept going to the scenic arch in Washington Park, where he was acting like he was taking her picture – But instead, Erik pulled out a ring and proposed.

Rachel said, “Yes.”

“You know you don't expect things to change after that moment, but they do because it's just more finality in it and there's more security and support and support and now I have that to look forward to the rest of my life,” said Erik.

And at the wedding friends and family won't sign a guestbook - They'll sign a kite!
