Use evergreen trees, shrubs to warm up winter landscape | Today’s Home

You know it's not until the winter months that you realize how dreary your landscape really is.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – You know it’s not until the winter months that you realize how dreary your landscape really is.

You can change this by doing a great balance between Evergreen Trees and Shrubs along with Deciduous Plants as well. Deciduous Plants are ones that lose their foliage during the cooler months of the year.

Evergreens of course always hold on to their foliage such as Cedars and Hollies and that type of thing. One of Chris Olsen’s favorites in a tree-form-wise is an Evergreen is the Deodar Cedar.

You’ve got to give them plenty of space, Chris has to warn you because each of them can get twenty to thirty foot wide so you’ve got to make sure you don’t put it in a confined area. There’s another Deodar Cedar called the Atlas Deodar beautiful but a little bit more contorted but it does not at all take up the width or the space that a regular Deodar does.

What’s great about these trees is they are very graceful and they have a silver-blue color foliage to it that really shines on a winter day. If you like plants that might have a little bit more leaves to them what about the Little Jem Magnolia?

One of Chris’s favorites because he loves Magnolias but Magnolias can get big but the Little Gem is an ornamental tree so they don’t get too large. Easy for smaller areas.

He uses them in Courtyards, he uses them in Containers small spaces. So, if you add a few Evergreens to your landscape your landscape will be beautiful even in the winter months.
