'Small Business Saturday' highlights local vendors in downtown Little Rock

Here in Little Rock, people also swarmed the South Main Street district to celebrate shopping small in Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Here in Little Rock, people also swarmed the South Main Street district to celebrate shopping small in Arkansas. Local vendors were able to set up along South Main to display their crafts and products.

One small business owner tells us it's opportunities like these that help his business grow.

"It gives us an opportunity to show off what we do," said Freddie Wright. "We put a lot of love and work into our craft so to be able to come out and be downtown and expose ourselves, it's a really good thing."

In 2018, an estimated 108 million consumers nationwide shopped small on Small Business Saturday. Here in the state of Arkansas, 99 percent of the businesses are small and those employ an estimated 479,000 employees.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Arkansans to stop by their local stores here and across the state as we celebrate the importance of shopping locally," said District Director Edward Haddock. "I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the small businesses, lenders, and supporters like Regions Bank, Forge, Communities Unlimited, Soma 501, River Market, and Argenta Arts District who made this possible."
