Entergy offers free home checks to help you save money

You can save money monthly on your energy bill by utilizing this free service from Entergy. They provide free home checks to check how energy efficient your home is and then provide you with solutions.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — One of the main resolutions to the new year is to save money, and if you’re feeling a draft when the temperatures drop.

Then your money could literally be going right out the window.

But Entergy offers a free program to help find issues that are causing loss in your bank account and THV11 takes you a long for the journey. It’s just a typical day for Matthew Plummer.

“So, we have a lot of different kinds of insulation and a lot of different depths,” he explained. Plummer is an energy assessor with Seal. And his job is to find where improvements could be made to save energy and money for homeowner Logan Perry.

“We felt some air coming in and probably going out kinda getting cold around the windows and doors,” said Perry.

After checking out the outside of the home, it’s up to the attic we go. “Typically, you want a very smooth insulation you don’t want to see all these holes and dips,” said Plummer.

Next is entering the home. The assessments include a variety of ways to spot problems.

“Big red door one size fits all mostly,” said Plummer. “So, this time of year it’s not super awesome but that’s what we have to do.” Turning off that heat, that is. And everything sealed. He tells us how the flue was open a little bit. But it’s simple science. “The fan does all the actual work so what we are going to do is to pull all the air out of the house and we are going to change the pressure,” said Plummer.

So, what’s the purpose?

“We going to see how well the house breathes,” said Plummer. And it sounds technical. “So, we got two measurements the pressure difference between inside and outside and the cubic feet per minute flowing through that fan,” added Plummer.

Then, it’s the results.

“The test determined that we are within the 20 percent of minimum ventilation so that’s really the goldilocks zone,” said Plummer. The last step is the ducts. Plummer thinks there could be an issue here after being in the attic. After about 90 mins the assessment is complete.

And Perry is a happy client. “It was really neat the deal they did in front, pulling all the air out being able to identify rooms that needed more attention,” said Perry.

Plummer said one of the easiest ways to save energy right now is to get to rid of your old incandescent light bulbs and start buying L.E. D’s because one of these led lightbulbs equal six of these in energy savings.

If you’re interested in having an energy assessor come to your home the wait could be anywhere between a few weeks to over a month.
