Crowds gather to remember Sergeant Donald Scoby

It was an emotional day in Stuttgart as friends and family said goodbye to Sergeant Donald Scoby, who was killed in the line of duty just last week.

STUTTGART, Ark. — Sargeant Donald Scoby was laid to rest on Monday after losing his life in the line of duty last week.

To truly know Donald Scoby, you just have to ask the ones who knew him best.

"He was just the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back," longtime friend, Lisa Frazier, said.

Countless stories of kindness and care, are now memories that Frazier and her daughter are holding on to.

"It's one of your core people that you depend on, and that, you know, would do anything for anybody," she said. "It just rips your heart out."

Sargeant Scoby was a key member of the Stuttgart community and a four-year veteran of the Stuttgart Police Department.

His funeral served as a visual reminder of the pain that Frazier described.

"We didn't just lose a police officer, we lost a friend and a family member," She said.

Alongside community members came law enforcement by the hundreds to honor a lost brother.

"We all feel each other's pain when one hurts, like I said, it's a family," Detective Jeremy Crosby with the Pine Bluff Police Department said. "I mean, although you may not know the next guy, it's a family thing, you're gonna feel the pain regardless of where you work, who you work with, or how far y 'all were apart."

No matter the distance, that family showed up— From Stuttgart to Jonesboro, Fayetteville to El Dorado, the support never stopped.

"If we can be there if we can provide people to help support the family and the community in their time of grief, that's what we're gonna do," Deputy Tommy Burton said.

Burton works with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, all the way in Louisiana and he explained that distance was never a factor— they were always going to be there.

"Doesn't matter, it's all the same," Burton said. "We're all family."

While Monday was a day to remember who Sergeant Scoby was, the community will hold on to more than just his memory.

They're carrying on the legacy he leaves behind.

"Be good to others," Frazier said. "Be there when somebody needs you, just reach out to others and just be good to each other."
