AG Leslie Rutledge warns against holiday thieves, Lonoke PD offer to pick up packages

When you deliver packages to your home, it's not difficult for someone to walk up and take it. That's why Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is encouraging people to have their packages delivered somewhere else.

LONOKE, Ark. (KTHV) - It's the time of year for gift giving which means thieves are out and about to snatch packages from your porch. When you deliver packages to your home, it’s not difficult for someone to walk up and take it. That's why Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is encouraging people to have their packages delivered somewhere else like work, a P.O. box or neighbors if you won’t be home to take it inside.

“Thieves are driving neighborhoods looking for an opportunity to take those Christmas presents,” said Rutledge. “Make sure to track those packages if you have concerns about someone stealing a package from your front porch.”

Now in Lonoke, Chief Randy Mauk is offering to have your packages picked up from your home if you can’t be there.

“I would much rather pick up the package and store it here than to take a report on something we could have prevented,” said Chief Mauk.

He thought of the idea after the first holiday delivery was snatched this week. Chief Mauk encourages people to just call the department and tell them when your package will be delivered. They’ll hold it for you at the station until you can pick it up.

“We’re a small community and we need to help out our neighbors,” said Chief Mauk.

Chief Mauk also reminds adults that if they're out drinking this holiday season - call the station and they'll offer you a safe ride home.
