Arkansas man killed mother and then himself, police say

The sheriff said that the two bodies were found inside a burning home and a dog was also found shot to death.

JASPER, Arkansas — Authorities say a man in Arkansas fatally shot his mother and then set the house and an outbuilding on fire before returning to her side and killing himself.

Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said in a news release Sunday that the bodies of 71-year-old Dianne Reno and her son, 33-year-old Dustin "Cody" Reno, were found Friday inside the burning home south of Jasper, about 140 miles (225 kilometers) north of Little Rock. He said both had gunshot wounds to the head.

He said a dog was also found shot to death.

Wheeler said Dianne Reno was on a cot in the living room when her son placed a pillow over her head and shot her.

The news release says investigators found a pistol at the scene.
