SPRING HILL, Fla. -- A mother is accused of leaving her 3-year-old son at home while she went to the bar for a few "rum and Cokes."

Someone called police early Wednesday, Nov. 8, to tell them 27-year-old Kristen Broker's son was left without any supervision, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

It was good timing: as a deputy arrived at 2 a.m., he noticed someone dropping Broker off at her Spring Hill home. The arrest affidavit reads the deputy asked if she knew of the child's name; Broker responded she's the child's mother.

The child was inside, sleeping, she continued. However, the deputy found the 3-year-old in the mother's queen-sized bed without side railings.

"He appeared worried and scared as to where his mother was," the affidavit reads.

Broker told the deputy drank a few mixed drinks and beers for about a half hour, but the deputy wasn't convinced. She was "extremely intoxicated," and Broker later said she had been drinking since 1 p.m. the day prior.

The child told the deputy as his mother left, she said she'd "be right back." He since has been turned over to his father, Broker's boyfriend.

Broker is being held in the Hernando County Jail on a $2,000 bond. She is slated to be in court on Dec. 4.
