Coronavirus death total rises to 57 in Arkansas

The Arkansas Department of Health has updated the COVID-19 numbers throughout the state, confirming a total of 3,137 positive cases.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — As of April 29, The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed a total of 3,137 positive cases. The total number of deaths has jumped from 52 to 57 since the governor's press conference this afternoon.

Gov. Hutchinson announced on Friday, May 1, camping for in-state resident RVs will open. On May 15, Arkansas is expected to open restaurants, marinas, and more at state parks.  

Tomorrow, Gov. Hutchinson will be announcing a decision on restaurants in the state.

Key facts to know:

  • 3,137 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas 
  • 45,394 total tests
  • 42,257 negative test results
  • 57 reported deaths
  • 1,235 recoveries
  • All Arkansas schools are closed for the remainder of the school year

Tuesday, April 28

7:15 p.m.

The Arkansas Department of Health has updated the COVID-19 numbers throughout the state, confirming a total of 3,127 positive cases. The total number of deaths has jumped from 52 to 57 since the governor's press conference this afternoon.

1:40 p.m.

On Friday, May 1, camping for in-state resident RVs will open, per Gov. Hutchinson. On Friday, May 15, Arkansas is expected to open restaurants, marinas, and more at state parks.  

Arkansas Health Secretary Dr. Nate Smith breaks down the 3,111 cases:

  • 1,913 active cases 
  • 104 hospitalizations
  • 20 on ventilators 
  • 52 deaths 
  • 1,146 recoveries 
  • 860 inmates in Cummins Prison
    •  51 staff
  • 208 nursing home residents
    • 115 staff

Dr Smith said 30 recovered COVID-19 patients have donated plasma and 13 have received it. UAMS Health is conducting clinical trials.

1:30 p.m.

In a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson confirmed 3,111 positive COVID-19 cases throughout the state. He also said 159 Arkansans have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Tomorrow, Gov. Hutchinson will be announcing a decision on restaurants in the state.

Monday, April 27

7:00 p.m.:

The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed 3,069 positive COVID-19 cases throughout the state with 1,053 recoveries from the virus.

12:15 p.m.

Arkansas Health Secretary Dr. Nate Smith breaks down the 3,017 cases:

  • 109 hospitalizations
  • 25 on a ventilators
  • 203 nursing home residents
    • 115 staff 
  • 50 deaths 
  • 856 positive Cummins inmates
    • 50 staff 

On Sunday, Arkansas's positivity rate was 1.8%, which is lower than the average of 7.5%.

12 p.m.

In a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson confirmed 3,017 positive COVID-19 cases throughout the state.

Gov. Hutchinson said Arkansas achieved its goal of at least 1,500 tests during the two-day siege campaign.

The governor said Arkansas must satisfy one of two of these before the state can start Phase One opening:  

  1. Downward trajectory of documented cases sighing 14-day period 
  2. Downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period
