Hiding in plain sight: Signs of addiction

"Alcoholism and addiction don't discriminate," said Dr. Caroline Ford, Executive Director of Wolfe Street. "We have all walks of lives, all ages, all ethnicities."

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - THV11 hosted a “Saving A Generation” Screening and Discussion Thursday to bring together those fighting the opioid epidemic. Drug addiction affects us all, including kids and teens.

The screening’s donations went to the Wolfe Street Foundation which works to help those suffering from alcoholism and addiction through facilities, education, and outreach.

“Alcoholism and addiction don’t discriminate,” said Dr. Caroline Ford, Executive Director of Wolfe Street. “We have all walks of lives, all ages, all ethnicities.”

Ford displayed a mock room at the screening called “Hidden in Plain Sight” to show how teens are cleverly hiding drugs and alcohol. She showed markers, flashlights, and books that all hid drugs.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2015, 4,235 people ages 15-24 died of an overdose. The CDC claims 80.4 percent of those were unintentional.
