A Little Rock Federal Court Security Officer with the US Marshals service was recognized with a national award Wednesday.

Jim Howington won the prestigious Court Security Officer of the year award in the 8th Circuit Court.

“Walden Security motto is setting the standards by setting the example, and that’s what Jim does everyday of his life,” said a Walden Security spokesman.

Walden Security is one of the largest court security companies in the nation.

Company leaders and city leaders gathered to award Howington with a plaque, cash and a lengthy speech of thanks.

Howington serves as security in the 8th Circuit Court, which covers seven states with more than 400 other CSO’s.

He was shocked finding out he won the award that represents the state of Arkansas and Little Rock.

“It means a lot,” Howington said. “It's another opportunity that I’ve had to be honored with this award.”

Howington has accomplished a lengthy list of things in his life before becoming a CSO.

He served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, ranking Sergeant Major.

He also spent 30 years in law enforcement with the Arkansas State Police, retiring as Troop C’s Captain.

Howington is the only one in the state of Arkansas to win the CSO of the year award.
