LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Little Rock Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting that left two children hurt.
Officer Steve Moore said officers received a call around 5:15 p.m. that a 13-year-old had been shot in the left leg right above the knee. Police responded to the home on 15 Irving Drive and found a 7-year-old had also been shot in the right side of the stomach.
Officer Moore said both children were alert and talking with EMT's while in the ambulance. Both children were taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital and are expected to be okay.
While the shooting is being called accidental, police are investigating which child was playing with the .357 Smith and Wesson firearm. A 16-year-old and an adult were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
According to the police report, the 16-year-old showed officers where the firearm was located.
The 16-year-old told police that he was "sick of it" and threw the firearm into the city supplied trash can in the backyard.
Police took the teen down to the 12th St. substation for questioning. The teen is being charged with possession of firearms by certain persons.
