2 dead after car theft turns into fatal wreck in Hot Springs

Hot Springs police are investigating a car theft that turned into a fatal wreck, killing two Hot Springs residents.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - Hot Springs police are investigating a car theft that turned into a fatal wreck, killing two Hot Springs residents.

On Sept.12 at 10:30 a.m., the Hot Springs Police Department took a report in reference to a silver 2009 Hyundai Sonata being stolen from 400 Linwood Street. At 11:24 a.m., officers observed the car in the area of Third Street and Hobson Street. Officers attempted to stop the car at Hicks Circle and Albert Pike Road, but the driver fled and officers initiated a pursuit. Officers lost sight of the vehicle in the and, due to dangerous speeds, the pursuit was terminated.

At 11:27 a.m., officers located the car wrecked on Albert Pike Road, where it had struck a 2000 Toyota Corolla in the driver side. The two occupants, 49-year-old George Luster and 51-year-old Kathaline Luster, of the Toyota were killed in the collision.

The driver of the stolen Hyundai has been identified as 19-year-old Gystin Michael Parker of Riverdale, Georgia. Parker has been charged with felony theft by receiving, and felony fleeing in a vehicle.

The crash is currently under investigation and more charges will be forthcoming, pending the results of the investigation.

Parker is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Garland County Detention Center.
