Lawsuit filed over 2017 ranger shooting that left a man dead at Buffalo National River

The lawsuit cites body camera footage showing Bolger reaching for his truck door and not pointing anything at the ranger.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — The family of a camper shot and killed by a park ranger at the Buffalo National River in Arkansas three years ago is suing the federal government.

Jonathan Bolger's family filed the lawsuit in federal court Wednesday. Bolger died at age 34 at the Spring Creek Campground in August 2017 after he was shot by a park ranger.

Prosecutors declined to file charges in the death of Bolger, who authorities say was holding an air pistol.

The lawsuit cites body camera footage showing Bolger reaching for his truck door and not pointing anything at the ranger.
