Annie the dog recovering after being shot in face, back

A miracle puppy, who quickly became social media's favorite dog last week, is looking for a new home.

A miracle puppy, who quickly became social media's favorite dog last week, is looking for a new home.

Annie was found shot on a highway in Hensley, but was released Tuesday from Shackleford Vet Clinic in Little Rock.

The 10-month-old puppy became an overnight Facebook star after word spread about her situation. She's been through a lot, but with her personality and wagging tail you wouldn't be able to tell.

“Gun shots are not super common, especially in Little Rock. Annie was found a little outside Little Rock, in more of a rural area,” said Dr. Brian Barron who performed emergency surgery on Annie.

Thanks to him, a random driver and the internet, Annie now has a chance to start over.

“She's now missing her right eye and a part of her cheek bone,” Barron added.

Annie was shot right between the eyes and again in her back.

“You can tell she isn't affected by it too much. She doesn't too much care about anything other than giving kisses and eating,” said Barron as Annie licked his face.

Lucky to still be alive, the pooch is completely unfazed by her new looks and is making great recovery.

"Annie was named after a lady that supports our rescue who's going through some challenges right now. She's a strong lady and came through successfully, so we knew this Annie would too,” said Shelley Smith with The Dog House Rescue.

After arriving at a shelter in Jacksonville, The Dog House stepped in to help foster Annie until she finds a fur-ever home.

“She won't be able to go to a home until she completes her antibiotics. That will be in about two weeks, but she is available for adoption,” Smith said.

Annie is a moderate to high energy dog, so she'll need basic training. She’s already loved by many.

“She's a lab mix and could have some pit bull in her but we don't know her heritage. She needs to go to a home that's ok with that,” added Smith.

Unfortunately, we may never know who tried to kill Annie.

All her medical costs have been covered and she is also spayed and vaccinated.

You can still donate to Friends of Jacksonville Animals to help other dogs like her.
