BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) – THV11 is asking you to put down the distractions behind the wheel as part of our "Refuse to Lose" campaign.
A local musician who is hoping to make it big is using his music to promote that same message.
THV11's Laura Monteverdi reached out to the Bryant native, who is encouraging everyone to "Put it Up" behind the wheel.
At 24-years-old, Brandon Eidson is chasing his dream. Earlier this year, he packed up his bags and his guitar and moved from Bryant to Austin, Texas to pursue a career in music.
“I’ve here for about five months now and getting some new projects rolling along so I'm pretty excited,” said singer/songwriter, Brandon Eidson.
Eidson is using his passion to spread a powerful message.
“I was on my way to work, to and from, and I got run off the road, or almost run off the road multiple times and the common factor was this,” said Eidson, holding up his cellphone. “It kind of lit a fire inside me.”
Eidson grabbed his guitar and went to work, penning his song "Put it Up,” a catchy, fun tune with an important message about the dangers of distracted driving.
“Humor is a really essential factor in getting serious points across. It allows you to take it in a lot easier so it leaves you having a good time and laughing, but it also plants that in you to think 'oh maybe I shouldn't use my phone while I’m driving."
Reporter: “Do you hope someone listens to it and maybe thinks twice before they get behind the wheel and become distracted?”
Eidson: “I would love for it to play in everyone’s heads before they get behind the wheel and realize that sending that text or looking at that notification isn't worth it.”
Eidson hopes his music will help change lives and save some, too.
“Let’s spread positive awareness and mindfulness and make this world a better place. That's my goal for my music,” said Eidson.
