LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Arkansas State Fair opens its gates Thursday.

There are few changes you need to know about. The biggest change is security. Attendees will walk-through metal detectors before entering the fair. Additional lighting has been installed in the parking lots and security will be patrolling the areas. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office will also have about 15 to 20 deputies walking around the fair.

And don't forget, smoking in any form is banned in lines for rides and food, as well as indoor facilities and livestock areas.

That’s a look at some of the rules and security measures, now let's talk about some of the fair fun.

First things first, food. This year's fair includes some fan favorites as well as some new editions. Frosted flake chicken, salad on a stick, bacon bombers, pizza on a stick and so much more! The one the that has our newsroom talking is Kool-ickles, a Kool-Aid pickle.

But it's not just the food that has people talking, the rides are getting a lot of attention this year. A new carnival company is bringing different rides this year.

And don't forget the extra day of fun! The fair starts Thursday and runs through October 22.
