LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- You may have seen them around town: drains decorated with everything from surfing frogs to lazy cats.
It’s all part of Drain Smart, an effort to make people think twice about where our water flows. THV11 has partnered with Audubon Arkansas in efforts to keep our state's waterways clean.
On Wednesday afternoon, the public is invited out to celebrate the program with a dance party.
You can literally kick off your shoes and run through paint along with other games, live music and much more.
Prinn Vandergrift was the 2016 public choice winner for the Drain Smart program. Right now, she’s working on drain mural number two and she needs your help. Vandergrift has a unique approach to every drain she paints. She designs not only art but concepts that involve as many children and adults as possible.
Vandergrift learned firsthand last year that just telling people about the program doesn’t help them learn as effectively. But getting them involved with the creation helps the knowledge sink in a little more.
This year’s design is all about feet and how to use them to show love for your town, streets, rivers and streams.
Drain Smart is designed to show the importance and function of our local storm drains and how litter can affect our planet. When it rains Little Rock's municipal storm drains pick up everything and the polluted water flows directly to our streams, rivers, and lakes.
THV11’s Mariel Ruiz will be joining Prinn Vandergrift at the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library at 4:30 p.m.
Stay with THV11 as more artists finish their designs for this year's program.
