Early morning Conway apartment fire ruled arson, one arrested

Conway police arrested an Arkansas man for arson after a fire broke out at the Germantown Apartments early Monday morning

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) – Conway police arrested an Arkansas man for arson after a fire broke out at the Germantown Apartments early Monday morning.

Conway police and fire departments were called to the apartment complex around 4:22 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the building engulfed in flames and residents escaping.

Firefighters immediately started working to put out the fire. The fire department and CPD worked to make sure all the residents were out of the building.

Two residents were injured when they jumped from the second floor to escape the fire, and they were transported to the hospital.

According to reports, police arrested 50-year-old David Hartsell after officials found some suspicious items in his apartment within the complex.

Firefighters rescued several pets, and unfortunately one dog died in the fire.
Six of the 12 apartments in the building received heavy fire damage, and the other six received smoke damage.

In total, 17 tenants have been displaced, and the apartment management and the Red Cross are working to find them new homes.

Hartsell faces a charge of arson and first degree battery. He is being held at the Faulkner County Detention Center.
