HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - A handful of cottages overlooking Lake Hamilton are destroyed after catching fire.

The first calls came into 9-1-1 just after 10 p.m. Saturday. A car caught fire and quickly spread to a cottage in the Klein Shore Resort.

From there, the fire swept through three other units sending flames high into the air that could be seen on the busy Highway 70 bridge and across the crowded lake. The speed of the flames surprised one homeowner, Monte Dilick.

“These homes were built in the 40’s. It was literally kindling. It just took off. We couldn’t stop it. We called 9-1-1 of course. Got our animals out. Tried to move cars, and within two minutes everything was up in smoke,” said Dilick.

A couple firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion. Deputies and fire officials who were on the scene couldn't say exactly what caused the initial car fire.
