LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Pulaski County Special School District has released a statement regarding details from a February incident between a former Pulaski County school bus aide and a teenager with autism.
Authorities say that 62-year-old Kay Surratt was on a bus from Mills High School when she assaulted the 16-year-old disabled student.
Reports claim Surratt strangled the victim and slammed his head into a bus window while the vehicle was stopped on the side of a freeway. The victim was diagnosed with concussion-like symptoms.
Surratt is out of jail on bond facing a second-degree battery charge.
A statement from PCSSD spokesperson Deborah Roush reads as follows:
"When the district was made aware that a student was allegedly harmed, administration viewed video footage from the bus and immediately took disciplinary action and contacted the police.
The bus aide involved in this incident was terminated by the district.
The bus driver was disciplined appropriately and is no longer employed by the district. Because this incident involved a student and student records, the district is limited, legally, in its ability to comment."
