LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) --A network of rehabbers in Arkansas are petitioning the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's proposed plan to fight Chronic Wasting Disease.

AGFC's plan includes prohibiting the rehabilitation of deer statewide, but the Arkansas Mammal Rehabillitator's Network is worried this could mean fawns could end up not being cared for, or in the care of someone without proper training.

The petition, seen here, explains that the group is hoping the AGFC plan does not ban the rehabbing of fawns, especially in central Arkansas.

Five counties in Arkansas are facing problems with chronic wasting, including Boone, Carroll, Madison, Pope and Newton counties.

Trey Reid with AGFC told THV11 earlier this week, “Chronic Wasting Disease can persist in the soil for a very long time indefinitely for as much as we know, so we don't want to put it anywhere else where it doesn’t exist now."

Arkansas Game and Fish will vote on this proposal and several others Friday. Stay with THV11 and THV11.com for updates.
