CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Conway artist and art professor Lester Gene Hatfield died Saturday at 91-years-old.

Hatfield was a decorated World War II veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and a Medal of Meritorious Conduct, according to 501 Life Magazine. After the war, he attended UCA where he later became an art professor until he retired in 1985. Many of his paintings are in various buildings at the UCA campus.

“In 1995, Hatfield was named Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art by UCA. In 2010, he received the Arkansas Arts Council Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was also the subject of ‘Arkansas Men and Women of Distinction’ an AETN documentary in 2013,” according to 501 Life Magazine.

Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4:30, UCA will hold a celebration of Hatfield’s life. It will be held in the Fireplace Room at UCA.
