LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Central Arkansas Water handled yet another water main break today on Cantrell, one that jammed up traffic and forced businesses to close.
"We just refer to it as a spontaneous break,” said Doug Shackelford with CAW.
Businesses along the stretch took a punch.
"We definitely can't be open,” said Lee Burchfield, manager of Taziki’s Mediterranean Café. “We need water for everything we cook here.”
For Taziki’s it just so happened on the busiest day of the week, forced to turn customers away at the door not knowing how long the construction could impact business.
"Once they get in there and see where the problem is, then they'll make a determination on what level of repair needs to be made,” said Shackelford.
CAW said a large main broke Friday, Nov. 9. In August, crews worked to repair a massive water main break on University, causing the road to buckle, leaving behind closures and traffic jams.
“Water pipes, they break,” said Shackelford. “It could be for a number of reasons, but I don't know if there's any real pattern here."
The two happening within months of each other have impacted drivers, businesses, and roadways, but according to Shackelford, there’s no need to panic, calling the timely breaks a coincidence.
"We have multiple failures along a line and that's going to be prioritized higher,” he said. “We are going to move it up to the top of the list when we recognized that, in this case here, I don't believe this is the case."
Taziki’s handed out coupons to guests who attempted to eat lunch there on Friday. By 1 p.m., crews got the water back on at Cantrell.
