LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Some of your favorite Saturday morning cartoon characters will be in Little Rock this weekend.

Ron Campbell spent 50 years as a director and animator. Now in retirement, Campbell has taken up painting. His famous characters serve as his muse.

His past projects include animation on the Beatle's Yellow Submarine film, The Smurfs, The Flinstones, The Jetsons, Rugrats, and more. He also directed The Beatles', a Saturday morning cartoon from 1965 to 1969.

"I never touched a paintbrush in my career," he said. "I never touched anything more complicated than a pencil, and now painting is a totally different second act."

Campbell's art is on display and available for purchase this weekend at Stephano's Fine Art Gallery located at 1813 N Grant Street in Little Rock.

The exhibition is open Saturday, Jan. 20 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 21 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

"They will have waves of nostalgia sweep over them as they look at the paintings," Campbell said of attendees. "And they will say 'oh I watched that one when I was a child.'"
