MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KTHV) - A Mayflower High School student has been arrested for felony terroristic threatening.

The principal at Mayflower High School contacted police on Monday after they had evidence of a student threatening to murder people at the high school.

According to a police report, the student wrote a text message to a friend saying, “Now you know why I try so hard not to just go on a murder spree at school.”

When confronted by police, the student admitted that he did write the text message, but said that it was a joke. The student also told police he has anger and trust issues along with bi-polar disorder and borderline schizophrenia.

The student claimed to be upset because he is being treated poorly by his mother and father. The police officer who arrested the student described him as “unstable” at the time of his arrest.

The Mayflower School District Superintendent, John Gray, issued a statement saying:

“We can't share much, but yesterday we became aware of a general threat that had been made by a text. We responded accordingly, working with our local law enforcement to deal with it. Last evening, we sent out a message to our parents reassuring them that their children were safe. There will be a disciplinary board meeting next week. We take all these incidents seriously and reacted accordingly.”
