PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - A scary situation involving her 5-year-old has a central Arkansas mother warning other parents to be diligent when their kids are on the water.

"All we heard was this loud piercing scream,” said Erin Krissell. Sunday, June 3, she and her husband took their kids to Pine Bluff Regional Park.

"My husband ran over there and grabbed him and his foot was covered in blood, beside him was covered in blood," she said.

5-year-old Grayson stepped on something sharp on the shore of Lake Pine Bluff.

"Dad said we were fixing to leave. When I went to go there, I fell down and I stepped on something really sharp,” Grayson said.

Grayson was rushed to the ER and left with nine stitches.

"We are thinking it was a bottle,” his mom said. “It's in a circular shape, so some type of glass busted bottle is what everyone was thinking."

The water is pretty murky, making it easy for someone to step on something sharp without noticing it.

Krissell says she doesn't blame Pine Bluff Parks and Rec, which manages the park, but the people who didn't properly dispose of their trash.

"Bring trash bags with you when you go to the park,” she said. “Throw your trash away. Don't bring glass bottles. There's plastic, there's cans. Even cans are safer than busted glass."

Pine Bluff Parks and Rec Interim Director Trudy Redus told us if they knew there was a problem, they would have fixed it.

"We try to ensure people are safe when they are in our parks. That would be the last thing we would ever want," Redus said.

Krissell says they used to visit that park several times a year, but now she says it's going to take some time before they'll return.

"We ain't going there never again,” Grayson said confidently, explaining he's not afraid of the water, but will be sticking to indoor pools for a while. "You have to clean it up."

Another viewer tells us her child was also injured at the park the weekend prior.

Tisha Dixon wasn't available to be interviewed today, but says her daughter and her husband also cut their feet at Pine Bluff Regional Park.

Dixon says the issue either needs to be fixed, or they need to zone it as "no swimming" to prevent further injury.
