Reading Roadtrip kicks off a reading celebration in Augusta

What do you call a town so devoted to literacy, that they throw a huge party for everybody in the town, all centered around reading books?

AUGUSTA, Ark. — What do you call a town so devoted to literacy, that they throw a huge party for everybody in the town, all centered around reading books?

You call it Augusta, Ark.

It’s the night of literacy, in which over 500 people are expected in the school gym to play games, pick out books, enjoy food and get together in a big show of encouragement for their elementary school.

On the Reading Roadtrip on Thursday, March 7, Craig O’Neill was presented with “The Book With No Pictures.” Perfect for the k-second graders, who one day will be reading books with no pictures.

This book however, may be the most exciting picture-less book they’ll ever pick up.

For the third through fifth graders, “Horton Hears A Who” by Dr Seuss. There had to be a Seuss book because so many of Thursday night's games have a Seuss theme.

Congratulations Augusta. Putting the “fun” in reading is fundamental.
