L.L. Owen students can make personal connections with the books they read

Believe it or not, second-graders have had enough life experiences to connect to the story. It's a beautiful thing when that happens.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Reading Roadtrip wasn't on the roof today. We were in a gym. The one that belongs to L.L. Owen Elementary in Watson Chapel.

The teachers were so excited, they were dancing. The energy level in the room was off the charts.

But, we were eventually able to settle down and read a story about mistakes, and learning from mistakes.

Believe it or not, second-graders have had enough life experiences to connect to the story. It's a beautiful thing when that happens.

We may think that reading to children is all about improving skills, but that's only part of it. When their stories meld with the ones depicted in books, it's a beautiful thing.

May those kids at Watson Chapel stay connected tor life.
