JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — Pinewood Elementary first-graders in Jacksonville really got into the story we've been reading this week about Penelope the Dinosaur.

It's amazing how authors can choose an outlandish character that can bring to light a situation these kids face in their young lives.

At Pinewood, I heard the best thing you can hear when a child said, "Read another one!"

Forty-five minutes later at PTC Daycare, I joined Abby Kerby of the Children's Library. She read a book about the magic of a Saturday.

It was a busy day of words, action, and thought -- by-products of the Reading Roadtrip.
