Watson Chapel superintendent 'eats bug off the rug' during Reading Roadtrip

“A Book Without Pictures” is such a fun read. We’ve highlighted it before on the Reading Road Trip. Adults are made to say the silliest things because that’s the rule in the book -- you have to read what the book says. This is especially effective if you have a dignitary present when reading the book.

At Watson Chapel’s L L. Owen Elementary School, Craig O’Neill had the perfect foil: Superintendent of Watson Chapel Schools, Dr Jerry Guess.

He was forced to read some pretty unusual things, including song lyrics: “Glug glug glug, I eat ants for breakfast right off the rug!”

The kids loved it. This produced a moment just right for L. L. Owen Elementary, where there’s a sign in the lobby that reads “laugh and learn.” Oh how they did laugh.

Schools statewide are starting to gear up for the big tests. But, despite the pressure to achieve, it’s good to take some time out to share a book, a laugh, a memorable experience.

Whatever it takes to produce lifetime readers.

Up next, Clinton Elementary in Sherwood. Caution: Dignitaries beware. If you show up you may end up doing something ridiculous. We’d have it no other way
