Owner of Pine Bluff's only movie theater served eviction notice by mall owner

The report said the owners of Pine Bluff's only movie theater was served an eviction notice for "failure to pay rent."

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The owner of Pine Bluff's only movie theater have been served an eviction notice for "failure to pay rent and comply with the rental agreement," according to a report by the Pine Bluff Commercial.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reportedly served an eviction notice to Steven Mays Jr., the owner of Saracen Cinema 8, on Jan. 17.

Judy Vu, the owner of Pines Mall, told us that the theater is behind on its rent. She said that she has no problem with Mays, but that his partner has allegedly committed a number of violations.

She said that led her to ask the courts to serve the eviction notice.

In October, we spoke with Mays after the theater opened for the first time after going through renovations for two months.

He said it took a lot of work to clean and renovate the theater.

The Pines Mall has faced many issues in the past few years with several businesses leaving open locations in the mall.

The J.C. Penney location announced its closure in early 2019.
