LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - As many of you have been enjoying this holiday, some of you may still have that violent weekend on your mind. Many admit they're hesitant, or even afraid, to go out to crowded events.
So, this year, event planners at Pop on the River have significantly added to their security measures.
“It’s definitely in the back of their heads to be hesitant to bring their kids out tonight," said Staci Zimmerman.
Thankfully new security efforts are in place this year to not just keep you safe, but to take away that hesitation many are feeling.
“We have been working with LRPD and Elite Security and we have increased both, we will always be doing bag checks," said Amanda Copley, Events and Marketing Director with Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
“If you want to come down to Pops on the River tonight, you need to come down. We're going to have plenty of officers here," said Officer Steve Moore.
Officer Moore tells us, on and off duty officers will be inside the venue plus officers will be out monitoring the streets.
“We don’t anticipate any problems. We don’t have any threats or anything like that. We just hope everyone can come down and enjoy the fireworks,” said Officer Moore.
At Pops on the River, you won’t just see more police, but you’ll see the number of Elite Security doubled. For the first time this year, patrons pass through a security wand. During the celebration, you'll see men and women there for protection to offer you some peace of mind.
“I do trust the security and I do believe they’re here to protect us,” said Zimmerman.
The fireworks are set for 9:30 p.m., rain or shine. Event planners said because there are wands this year, it’s important to give yourself extra time to enter.
