When summer hits the state of Arkansas, it can often be brutal which puts a strain on the homeless population of central Arkansas.

Aaron Reddin, founder of The Van, a mobile resource center for those in need, said mother nature can bring all sort of dangers to people without shelter no matter the season.

"We try to keep folks hydrated whether they're in an encampment or they're out on the street sleeping rough," he said.

Reddin explained that during the winter season, people have the safety of the homeless in mind, but summer can be just as dangerous as the freezing cold.

"[Just] think about being outside at a ballgame or something, being torn up by mosquitoes," he said. "Now imagine living out there and you're out there 24/7."

To make sure The Van can help as many people as possible there are plenty of items the community can donate to the cause.
