WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (KTHV) - West Memphis police have arrested a mother after her 17-month-old son ate a lethal amount of crack cocaine.

According to CBS affiliate WREG, police said 34-year-old Kadaysha Bedford allegedly left drugs out at a hotel room at Crown Inn on May 2. The child then reportedly ate the drugs and passed away.

Bedford was arrested for second-degree murder and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Three children were in the room at the time of the alleged crime. Those children are in the custody of a family member and the Department of Children and Family Services is involved.

The boy's father, 37-year-old Anthony Lewis, is facing the same charges. He was arrested earlier in a separate incident, so he was already in police custody. Lewis also faces illegal possession of a firearm charge.
