An investigation is underway after at least one West Memphis police officer fatally shot a suspect during a chase.

According to the Arkansas State Police, police tried to stop a vehicle that was driving towards Memphis. The suspect, 47-year-old Ronald Clinton of Memphis, allegedly struck patrol cars with his vehicle. He then began driving down Interstate 40 toward police officers.

It was during that time that Clinton was shot by at least one police officer. Clinton's car then struck a commercial carrier truck and trailer.

Clinton was transported from the scene of the crash and later died at the hospital.

State police have turned the case over to a prosecuting attorney, who will determine if the officer-involved shooting was justified.
