Woman dies after fatal house fire in Garland County

Though the fire is not believed to be suspicious, the Garland County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation since it was fatal.

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - A house fire in Garland County killed 66-year-old Brenda Andersen and destroyed a home on Pittman Road.

The 70 West Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in Garland County around 4 a.m. Sunday, June 17.

When firefighters arrived, the Garland County Sheriff's Department was on the scene and a deputy had located and removed a victim from inside the residence.

According to a press release from the 70 West Fire Department, there were flames showing through the roof covering most of the home. With the help of Bonnerdale and Piney Fire Departments, 12 firefighters and three engines worked the scene for four hours.

LifeNET EMS arrived to assist with the victim, though the Garland County Coroner's Office pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

"Everyone's overall goal is to get there, take care of the situation, and to hopefully not have any injuries or any loss of life, so when that happens it is very difficult," 70 West Fire Chief Autumn Carlisle said.

According to the press release, the 70 West Fire Department believes the victim was the only resident in the home. Because of the extent of the home's damage, it is unknown if there were working smoke detectors in the home.

Though the fire is not believed to be suspicious, the Garland County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation since it was fatal.
