Mountain Pine Schools dismiss due to fire at elementary school

Officials say before students arrived, a fire broke out at the elementary school.

MOUNTAIN PINE, Ark. — According to the Mountain Pine School District, on Friday, Jan. 31, shortly after 7 a.m., smoke was noticed coming from a classroom in the elementary building. 

Officials say there were not any students in the building at the time and students who were in the cafeteria were taken to the high school gym, where they remained until transported home by bus or parents.

Mountain Pine Fire Department, the Piney Fire Department, Garland County Sheriff’s Office and the Mountain Pine Police Department responded to the scene and controlled the fire.

That cause of the fire has not been determined. 

Officials dismissed school for the day, but Mountain Pine School will be resume on Monday, Feb. 3rd as normal. 

Basketball games scheduled for tonight at Mountain Pine will still be played.
