STAFFORD, Kan. -- A police agency in Kansas has a unique K-9 on the job. It’s a pit bull, and it’s apparently already made his first bust. And now the dog’s handlers are trying to change the breed’s perception.
Kano graduated from Universal K9, a San Antonio organization that trains pit bulls to be drug-sniffing dogs. According to the Wichita Eagle, Kano, who is now working for the Stafford, Kansas police department made his first drug best earlier this week.
Kano went through an 8-week program at Universal K-9, then a 2-week handler’s course. He’s now trained to locate marijuana, meth, cocaine, heroin and ecstasy.
The Stafford Police Department says they’re out to change the perception of pit bulls. According to a Facebook post on the department’s page, “Just like people dogs are individuals too! Kano and I plan to get out there and help try to change the bad name that so many have given the Pit Bull.”
