Cheer on the Razorbacks after your Thanksgiving food coma

The city of Little Rock is extending the Thanksgiving holiday well past Thursday this year, with a weekend full of football, live music, and lots of Razorback red.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The week of Thanksgiving always gives us something to celebrate; it's a time to spend with family and friends, devour food until we can't eat any longer and for us right here in Central Arkansas, there's always the "Battle Line" match-up.

The rivalry game between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Missouri Tigers has become a day-after-Thanksgiving tradition for many.

This year it'll be a little different though because the festivities will keep on going once the game clock hits zero.

Libby Doss Lloyd, the Little Rock Conventions and Visitors Bureau Communications Manager, said it'll be a weekend full of football, live music, shopping and of course lots of Razorback red.

"We want people to paint the town red, we are calling it 'Red Friday LR' for 'Red Friday Little Rock,'" she said.

If you're wondering what to do after you get out of your Thanksgiving food coma, Diana Long, Director of River Market Operations, said the city of Little Rock has got you covered.

"We have planned a couple of really great things in the River Market for your Thanksgiving weekend," she said.

Lloyd said it all starts on Friday when the Razorbacks and Tigers go head to head.

"There's something so special about a game in War Memorial and we are really looking forward to packing that stadium and supporting those guys this year," she said.

After a season of roadblocks and heartaches, Long said rallying around the Hogs is more important than ever.

"We really want and need for people to come out and show the Hogs some love. You can't just be a fair-weathered fan and people are not around here," she said.

Lloyd said before the game there will be food trucks, live music and hog town events right on the stadium grounds.

"That just gets people even more pumped, you know. You can't resist a great tailgate at War Memorial Stadium," she said.

Long said after you cheer on the Razorbacks, it's time to hit the River Market District for the 5th Quarter Event.

"Which is our post-game after-party in the River Market District," she said.

Long said it will include live music on the streets while you enjoy the Entertainment District. She said if there is rain, they will move the entertainment under the pavilions.

"That way there is still something to do and we are still having great events, so the rain will not stop us," she said.

Lloyd said to travel from War Memorial Stadium to River Market District, you don't have to worry about parking or grabbing an Uber.

"Rock Region Metro has been kind enough to offer complimentary shuttles to and from War Memorial Stadium and the River Market District," she said.

Long said the party continues on Saturday with the 3rd annual Think Big Shop Small, where more than 100 local vendors will be on the streets just for you.

With a jam-packed weekend ahead, Long said they aren't letting anything get in their way.

"The rain's not gonna stop us for this weekend. We've got party plans and we're proceeding," she said.

The game on Friday kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and shuttles will begin running every 20 minutes at 11 a.m.
