FAYETTEVILLE, Ark — Two years at Arkansas, two trips to the college world series in Omaha.

Not too shabby for the kid from Lonoke Casey Martin. Now a seasoned veteran, the Junior shortstop is embracing his new role as a leader on this team but he still relates well with the Freshmen.

"Honestly, I still feel like a younger guy, like honestly, I feel like a fit in with them. But no man it’s awesome to hop in that role."

Heading into 2020 Martin has been one of the most durable players on the team. Since his arrival Martin has played in 129 games, even starting all 66 at shortstop in 2019. "Time has flown, like we were talking about earlier. Seems like you start baseball season and then it’s over. I feel like yesterday I was just in my Freshman year."

It hasn't been all easy for Martin, in 2019 he faced a serious slump at the plate and committed a team high 23 errors in the field.

"Yeah man to be honest I was just in my head a lot. I got to the point you know what I’m done. Got off social media for a little bit and the rest of it just had to quit worrying about what everybody was saying just got out of my head saying if I hit it I hit it, if I don’t I don’t."

Despite the temporary struggles Martin is listed as MLB.com's 15th ranked overall draft prospect.

"Seems like yesterday we were just kids out there me and my brother and you look at it and the journey is almost done here obviously but it’ll definitely be something to look back on at all the hard work you accomplished and put in."
