Arkansas looks to snap skid on Saturday afternoon against Missouri

The Hogs have lost five in a row to drop to 4-9 in conference play.

Versus Missouri

• This will be the 53rd meeting between Arkansas and Missouri. The Razorbacks own a 27-25 advantage in the series, including an 8-7 cushion in games since Missouri joined the SEC in 2012-13.

• Arkansas is 16-9 versus the Tigers in Fayetteville and has won five straight in games played at Bud Walton Arena.

EARLIER THIS YEAR IN CoMo:

• For the second time in as many games, Arkansas pushed its opponent to overtime but could not pull out the win as Missouri defended its home court with an 83-79 victory.

• Missouri was in control most of the first half, except for the 40 seconds Arkansas led. However, the Razorbacks were able to hang around and trailed by six at halftime, 36-30.

• The Razorbacks opened the second half with a 12-6 run to tie the game, 42-42 at the 12:49 mark. The Tigers responded and led by as many at seven (54-47) with just under nine minutes left in regulation. Arkansas bounced back to lead, 56-55, with 6:10 left in the second half. From that point, the lead changed hands three times. Missouri’s Javon Pickett sank two free throws at the 1:19 mark to go up two before Desi Sills scored on a layup with 33 seconds left to tie the game, 67-67.

• Arkansas’ defense forced a shot clock violation on the Tigers’ last possession. Jalen Harris had a shot at the buzzer but missed to force overtime.

• In overtime, Mizzou led by as many as seven twice, the last being 79-72 with 1:32 left. Arkansas got a quick layup from Harris and quickly forced a turnover. Desi Sills drained a 3-pointer to get the Hogs to within two, 79-77, with 34 seconds left. The teams traded baskets and the Tigers maintained a 2-point. Xavier Pinson was fouled with 16 seconds left and he sank both free throws to provide the final score.

• Pinson led Missouri with 24 points, making 12-of-13 free throws. Overall, the Tigers were 34-of-44 from the free throw line as Arkansas was whistled for 35 fouls, three shy of the school record.

Jones and Joe Up for National Awards

• Mason Jones was one of 30 players named to the midseason list for the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy, the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
^ Also making the 30-player list from the SEC were Anthony Edwards (UGA) and Nick Richards (UK).

• Isaiah Joe was named 1 of 10 finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
^ Also making the 10-player list were fellow SEC players — Anthony Edwards (Georgia), Tyrese Maxey (Kentucky) and Skylar Mays (LSU).

FREE MASON: Jones Leads NCAA Free Throws

• Arkansas junior Mason Jones made 18-of-21 from the free throw line versus Mississippi State last Saturday to take the NCAA lead in both free throws made and attempted. He maintained the lead after going 7-of-10 at the line at Florida.

• Jones has made 179 free throws and attempted 218.

Jones’ Record Watch

• Jones is 17 points shy of 1,000 for his career. He will be the 44th Razorback to reach 1,000 career points and just the 8th to do it in two years as a Razorback (Todd Day, Scotty Thurman, Dusty Hannahs, Bobby Portis, Jaylen Barford, Daryl Macon and Martin Terry).

• Jones has made 179 free throws this season and ranks 7th on the school’s single-season list.

• Jones has made 102 free throws versus SEC competition this season to rank second. Corliss Williamson holds the record with 109 FT made in SEC games in 1994-95.

• Jones has scored 283 points versus SEC competition this season to rank 9th on the school’s single-season list.

• Jones is averaging 20.8 ppg for the season, which currently ranks 7th on the school’s single-season list. Only nine Razorbacks have finished the season averaging at least 20 ppg.

• Jones is averaging 21.8 ppg in SEC play, which currently ranks second. Only three Razorbacks have finished the season averaging at least 20 points in SEC play.

^ Joe ranks ninth in the SEC in scoring (16.0 ppg).
^ Joe leads the SEC and ranks 3rd in the NCAA by making 3.6 3-pointers per game.
^ Joe has missed a total of six games, five straight since having his surgery. In those last five games, Arkansas is 0-5 with overtime losses to Auburn and Missouri and a loss at the buzzer to Mississippi State.

• Despite missing SIX games, Joe is still 2nd the SEC and 44th in the NCAA in 3-pointers made (72).
^ The SEC leader in total 3’s made is John Petty Jr. (Alabama) with 79 in 26 games. (Joe has made 72 in 20 games).
