Bryant Lady Hornets vying for 7A state title

BRYANT, Ark. (THV11) - This isn’t just any other practice for Bryant, it’s the final practice of the season. Junior captain Mary Catherine Selig is just trying to keep the nerves in check.

“Just staying calm and trying not to get too nervous.” Luckily the Lady Hornets head coach Nicole Inman has been here before. “I’ve won a state championship, I’ve been to the final four in college and so this isn’t about me the girls were probably happier than I was and I’m just happy to be along for the ride.”

It’s not the destination of the ride that’s surprising about this team, it’s time it’s taken to get there.

“To do this in your first year, could you expect this? A lot of people have asked me that and this isn’t about me. I mean I could be the best coach in the world but if I don’t have players that can play it doesn’t matter.”

Her players are grateful for the praise but they continue to say it’s a big team effort. “She knows what she’s doing and she is like the best coach I’ve had so far and obviously without her effort and encouragement we wouldn’t be where we are today”.

Now they are one game away from bringing a state championship back to Bryant.

“Kind of surreal to think about what it could mean for the community and the sport of soccer in general around Bryant.”

“To have that on our resume’ and hers. I think it would just give us more confidence heading into next year and help us train more. Of course you want to brag a little more around the school and hopefully that gets us more recognition.”
