NEW ORLEANS — Arkansas State men’s basketballs senior guard Ty Cockfield II has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Cockfield averaged 33 points on 57.1 percent (20-35) shooting, including 50 percent (6-12) from 3-point range and 20-of-21 (95.2 percent) at the stripe. Cockfield poured in a career high 39 points against Texas State, the sixth-highest single-game scoring total in program history. With the 39-point performance, Cockfield passed 1,000 career points becoming just the fifth player in program history to do so in only two seasons played. Cockfield added 27 points against UT Arlington, hitting seven free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Red Wolves.

Currently tied for the SBC lead in scoring average at 22.0 points per game, Cockfield is among eight Sun Belt Conference athletes named to the 2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship Late Season Watch List. The watch list was compiled by a selection committee that consists of media experts from ESPN, The Athletic, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, Fox Sports, The Ringer, Three Man Weave and more. Ultimately, four players will represent each Division I conference at the 2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship at Mall of America from April 5-7. Final rosters for the 3-on-3 tournament will be announced in the coming weeks.
