LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (THV11) - Nearly 365 days ago Junction City walked off the field at War Memorial Stadium one win short of their goal.
Now the Dragons return to the rock with redemption on their mind as they get ready to face Hazen for the 2A crown. Head coach Steven Jones believes his team is ready. “Yeah it’s good to be back and we just had the sense of unfinished business with our program and our guys are excited to get back out there and get it going.”
The Dragons have had it going on offense all season, especially of late. Quarterback Brady Hutcheson opened up the passing game tossing for 425 yards the past three weeks including Mountainburg and Des Arc.
“Brady at quarterback has kind of led the way for us and our offense and got everything going. Both sides of the ball have been playing very well of late and we’re kind of playing our best ball at the end of the year which is what you want.”
Standing in their way is the number one ranked team in all 2A, Hazen. The Hornets strength is on the line with guys who average 240 pounds each. It’s no secret they like to run the ball. Junior running backs Ay’Jon Green and Tarrell Penn have combined for nearly 3,000 yards and 49 touchdowns.
“Coach does a really good job with them. They’re very physical they run really hard and they’re big on both sides of the ball. Offense and defensive line very big guys. They’re kind of like us, they like to run the ball downhill and it’s going to be a great matchup.”
All eyes will be on the sky once again this Friday with the possibility of winter weather.
It’s the last game of the year, state championship game. It doesn’t matter what elements we’re playing in. Both teams have to play in it and our kids are fired up to get out there.”
