#MaskUp4Sports encourages athletes to wear a mask in hopes of a football season

The Alma School District is using #MaskUp4Sports in hopes of encouraging coaches and athletes around Arkansas to wear a mask.

ALMA, Ark. — First year Alma head football coach Rusty Bush is on a mission. His Airdales are following the guidelines laid out for voluntary summer workouts, but his school district is going beyond that. "Look if you want to pierce the hearts of Arkansans, what else better than to threaten football."

The team is well aware there is a possibility COVID-19 their season is anything but a certainty, so the district along with Athletic Trainer Patty Webb began using #MaskUp4Sports.

"Started taking some pictures and putting it out there and she worked her tail off this weekend of getting pictures of our coaches and our kids and just putting it out there."

The message has begun to spread throughout the state, Benton head coach Brad Harris one of the first coaches in the state show his Panthers we’re on board. "Whatever it takes for our guys of where they can play and we can get our communities back together and if we need to wear masks we need to wear masks."

The Mask up for sports challenge has now stretched from Bentonville West, to Brookland, to Marion of kids and coaches who are doing their part to help us get back to sports.

"You know if we can do this little silly thing, wear your mask. Mask up for sports and put it out there. If they tell me to go stand in the corner for two days to have football. I’ll go do it, I’ll do whatever it takes for our kids to be able to play the sports that they love."
