18-year-old student dies after being hit by distracted driver on University of Arkansas campus

An 18-year-old University of Arkansas student was hit, by a car while crossing a crosswalk on Saturday, Feb. 2 according to University of Arkansas Police Captain Gary Crain.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — (KFSM/KTHV)—An 18-year-old University of Arkansas student was hit, by a car while crossing a crosswalk on Saturday, Feb. 2 according to University of Arkansas Police Captain Gary Crain.

The student who was injured died from her injuries at Washington Regional Medical Center, according to family members.

The accident took place on Garland Avenue between the Garland Parking Garage and the set of dorms dubbed "The Quads."

The driver was 17 years old and is not a student at the University. They received two citations: failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld device while driving according to Crain.
