Woman shot and killed by a hunter in western Arkansas

Sad news to report, as a woman was fatally shot by a hunter in Oark.

UPDATE - The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Jane Rust. Officials said Rust was with a relative and a friend when she stepped out of the car to take a picture of a church. That's when she was shot.

She was a postal worker in Sparkman, Arkansas. Her body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Sheriff Larry Jones told 5NEWS the shooting is still under investigation and he's still unclear if any charges will be filed.

Rust body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Once the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the 5th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney for review of possible criminal charges, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

ORIGINAL - OARK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says a woman was shot and killed by a hunter in western Arkansas.

Officials had first reported both were hunting when the woman was fatally shot Sunday by a man near Oark in Johnson County, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock.

Commission spokesman Keith Stephens said Monday that it's now not certain that the woman was hunting, but the man who shot her was hunting.

No names or other details of the shooting were released.
