ATLANTA — Delta Air Lines is tweaking its boarding process, making some of its most loyal customers wait a bit longer before seating.

The Atlanta-based airline previously boarded Diamond Medallion members — those holding Delta's top-level loyalty status — alongside first class and Delta One passengers, according to reporting from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Under the new rules, which took effect Aug. 3, that group will board after first class and Delta One.

Check out Delta's complete boarding procedures at the airline's website.

Diamond Medallion members still get to board ahead of nearly all passengers, including those in Comfort+ and Premium Select seats and families with strollers. (Delta is still boarding passengers needing assistance and active-duty military members ahead of everybody.)

In a statement to travel website The Points Guy, which spotted the change last week, Delta said the change will give crews a few extra moments to clean the main cabin and reduce congestion around the gate area early in the boarding process.
